Privacy Statement

The Village of Chauvin is committed to protecting your personal information. Our collection, use, and disclosure practices follow the requirements of the Access to Information Act (ATIA) and the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA).
 

Collection of Information

We collect only the personal information necessary to deliver municipal programs and services. This authority comes from POPA, ATIA, and the Municipal Government Act. When you contact the Village, submit a form, or request a service, the information you provide is used to respond to you and to administer the related municipal program.
 

When you visit our website, limited technical information is automatically collected, such as your IP address, browser type, and operating system. This information helps us maintain security and improve website functionality. The extent to which this information identifies you depends on your Internet Service Provider.
 

If you send us an email or complete an online form, the personal information you provide will be used only for the purpose for which it was collected or for a use consistent with that purpose. The Village may disclose information when authorized by law, including to other public bodies, law enforcement, or service providers acting on our behalf.

Retention and Disposal

The Village retains and disposes of personal information in accordance with its Preservation of Municipal Records Disposition Schedule and applicable legislation. You have the right to request access to your personal information, request corrections, and seek a review by the Information and Privacy Commissioner. If a privacy breach occurs that creates a real risk of significant harm, the Village will notify affected individuals as required by POPA.

Access to Information and Protection of Privacy 

The Village of Chauvin is subject to the provisions of the Access to Information Act (ATIA) and the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA).  These Acts replace the former Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP).  We are currently building our Privacy Management Program and will continue to update this page as information becomes available.
