PROPERTY TAX INFORMATION
Property Taxes & Assessment Guide
Property taxes fund the daily operations and long-term planning for the Village of Chauvin.
What Do Your Tax Dollars Fund?
Each year, Village Council reviews and approves the municipal budget. Once approved, Village Staff use these funds strictly according to Council's direction to maintain municipal infrastructure and deliver essential services:
-
Water & Sewer Services: Operation and continuous maintenance
-
Infrastructure: Road, sidewalk, and building upkeep
-
Seasonal Operations: Snow removal and park management
-
Public Facilities: Utilities for municipal structures and public spaces
-
Administration: Staffing and contracted services
How it works: Council sets the plan → Staff carry it out →
Tax dollars are used exclusively for approved municipal services and projects.

Property Assessment & Complaints
Assessment Overview
Assessment services ensure fair, market-based property valuations across the municipality in accordance with Alberta's Municipal Government Act (MGA). Your combined Assessment and Tax Notice reflects these valuations.
What to Do Before Filing a Complaint
If you notice an error in your property description, address, assessment class, valuation, or exemption status:
-
Contact the Village Office First: Reach out as soon as possible before the complaint deadline on your notice.
-
Review with the Assessor: The Village assessor can review your notice with you, explain how the valuation was calculated, compare similar properties, and correct clerical errors without requiring a formal complaint.
Filing a Formal Assessment Complaint
If you are unable to resolve your concerns with the assessor, you may file a formal complaint with the Assessment Review Board (an impartial administrative body).
-
Who Can File: Only the assessed property owner (or an authorized agent with a signed authorization form).
-
Requirements: You must submit the official complaint form along with the required filing fee before the deadline shown on your notice.
Note: Complaints cannot be filed regarding the Village’s mill rates.
Send completed forms and fees to:
Kelly Larson, Assessment Review Board Clerk
